Stress is not an illness itself. It's a symptom and it tells you that there is something you need to act on.
Seen from a biological perspective stress is good. It helps us to achieve the maximum energy for a short period of time; for an instance if we get attacked, we can escape or if needed we can defend ourselves. This is how strong the energy behind the healthy stress is.
When we get affected by the healthy stress we can perform our best at the test, score the goal at the football match, or finish the report within the deadline.
But when we keep performing with no break because of a constant pressure at work, family, and school then we get affected by the unhealthy and permanent stress.
It can influence our capability to listen, think, focus, or remember even simple things like words and the pin for your credit card.
If you ignore the signals and keep going without a break then there is a chance that you one day will find yourself burned out.
But how did you get to here? How come you where not able to be proactive and prevent this from happening?
The answer can be found in a mix of social heritage and the modern society we live in. Our brain was created to operate in a different environment at a slower page without smartphones and computers. In this society the brain gets pushed to the limit. Then add the pressure that we put on ourselves to be the best and to live to others expectations. Some of us will also find it difficult to set boundaries and speak up for ourselves. This we learned during of lives and the less we are able to set boundaries the more frustrated and upset we will feel. We loose influence on our situation which adds to the stress.
